Appointment planning

Preparing for an online doctor consultation in India from the UK

Start with the patient’s location and purpose

Write down where the patient will physically be during the appointment and whether the request is for a new discussion or another view on existing advice. Share a brief, non-sensitive outline with MedDocCall so the hospital can check the appropriate department and remote suitability.

Confirm the clinician and the format

Ask for the clinician’s name, specialty and hospital before agreeing the appointment. Confirm whether it is a video call, telephone discussion or records-based review, and whether the arrangement can meet your needs. Request your preferred language early and confirm whether it is available.

Check both time zones

Keep the appointment confirmation showing the date and time in both the UK and India. The UK changes its clocks seasonally, so use the confirmed local time rather than relying on a remembered time difference. Confirm how you will receive the joining link and who to contact if it does not arrive.

Prepare the technology and your questions

Use a quiet, private place, charge your device and test its camera, microphone and connection before the call. Keep your questions nearby. Ask in advance whether a family member can attend and whether the patient needs to give consent for their involvement.

Use the agreed route for medical records

Wait for instructions about which records the specialist needs and how to share them. Do not include scans, medical histories or identification documents in the first enquiry. Check that documents are readable and clearly labelled, and ask whether original imaging files are needed.

Check the cost and follow-up before booking

Ask for the consultation fee and any coordination charge separately. Confirm the cancellation terms, appointment length, any written summary and what happens if the connection fails. After the discussion, clarify how clinical questions will be answered and which practical arrangements MedDocCall has agreed to support.
